EYE MEDICINE AND COSMETIC SURGERY

When we are interested in the aesthetic treatment of the gaze, the objective varies according to age.

We’re talking about beautifying the eyes and preventing aging. This involves offering treatments to correct defects present physiologically and delaying the appearance of wrinkles.

One of the main reasons for consultation in aesthetic medicine for both men and women is the treatment of dark circles. There are two types of ring.
Hollow circles corresponds to a lack of volume around the eyes. The treatment consists of correcting these defects by injecting hyaluronic acid. We can also correct the valley of tears, raise the eyebrow, reduce the hollow of the upper eyelids. This intervention is carried out in the office during the consultation.

The colored rings are red, blue or brown. We will then offer you laser treatments, mesotherapy or even regenerative medicine treatments such as PRP.
Finally, to prevent wrinkles that develop around the eye and on the face, botulinum toxin injections are combined to delay the appearance signs of age. This concerns crow’s feet lines, frown lines and forehead wrinkles.

We’re talking about eye rejuvenation. In fact, with age, the upper eyelids become heavier with the formation of excess skin.

Wrinkles are accentuated and dark circles deepen around the eyes. Pockets of fat appear in the lower eyelids. All this contributes to a tired look and a sad face.

Treatment involves reducing these signs of aging around the eyes throughcosmetic surgery of the upper and lower eyelids or blepharoplasty.

This will sometimes be associated with aesthetic medicine treatments. Any intervention must be associated with a healthy lifestyle to prolong the result: sunscreen and daily moisturizer, smoking cessation, restful sleep and balanced diet.

Rejuvenation of the look

From the age of 30, whether you are a man or a woman, the signs of aging appear on the face and particularly around eyes.

In fact, forehead wrinkles become more marked, eyebrow fat atrophies which leads to a loss of the tail of the eyebrow. The temples hollow out, which ages the look, and the muscles become rigid, which accentuates the frown lines and crow’s feet. At the level of the upper eyelids, the skin relaxes and the eyelids become heavier, which hides the moving eyelid and sometimes even the eyelashes.

In the lower eyelid, certain volumes decrease which accentuates hollow dark circles and the valley of tears and gives a tired look. Other fat volumes increase which causes bags of fat under the eyes.

Finally, the skin, which is extremely thin around the eyes, becomes dehydrated and loses elasticity, which causes fine wrinkles and wrinkled skin on the lower eyelid.
All surgical and aesthetic medicine techniques aim to fade these signs of aging and restore the harmony of the volumes of your face. We therefore combine surgery, injections, laser and regenerative medicine techniques to offer you the least invasive treatment possible with optimal natural and lasting results.

These procedures can be combined with laser techniques to complete the treatment of fine wrinkles around the eyes.
These surgeries are always performed in a clinic, under local anesthesia or deeper if necessary to guarantee comfort and safety.

The results are natural, the scar remains invisible and the effectiveness is maintained in the long term. To prolong these results, aesthetic medicine treatments and a healthy lifestyle will be recommended.

Aesthetic eye medicine is a branch of aesthetic medicine whose goal is to improve the appearance of the periocular region. It aims to correct the signs of aging and prevent the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes.

The most common treatments used in aesthetic eye medicine are botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid.

Botulinum toxin is used to reduce eye wrinkles (frown lines, crow’s feet lines, forehead wrinkles).

Hyaluronic acid is one of the fillers that are used to fill in hollows, particularly those around the temples and eyebrows. Other treatments are applied in aesthetic eye medicine.

Medical blepharoplasties to lift the eyelids using laser without surgery. Radiofrequency allows superficial and deep tissues to be tightened in order to raise the eyebrow, smooth the skin around the eyes and treat bags under the eyes. Treatments to improve the coloring of the skin around the eyes, particularly dark circles: regenerative medicine, depigmenting peel and laser.

How to lift your eyes without surgery

Today there are so-called “medical blepharoplasty” techniques. These techniques, essentially carried out using lasers, allow retraction of the skin by creating heat sinks at regular intervals, reducing the skin surface in order to reduce excess skin. The general term is “skin resurfacing”. The results of these techniques vary according to the laser used: fractional CO2 laser, Erbium YAG, plasma peel, plexR. This is an in-office procedure under local anesthesia. This technique will create crusts on the surface of the skin of the eyelids. The social eviction is therefore about 7 days. The results will last for several years.

Optimal indications for satisfactory results are:

- small excess skin too early for surgery

- a slight excess of skin after surgical blepharoplasty

- the pleated appearance of the skin in the lower eyelid

For information, these gestures must imperatively be carried out by a specialized doctor because it involves risks if they are carried out by non-medical personnel.

What is blepharoplasty

The term blepharoplasty refers to all surgeries performed on the upper and lower eyelids in order to restore your look to all the radiance of your youth. Blepharoplasties include gestures to reduce the skin of the upper and lower eyelids, to reduce or transpose the fat of the lower eyelids to make the bags disappear under the eyes, to fill the lack of volume at the level of the ring and the valley of the tears. Gestures can be associated with it, such as lifting the outer ligament of the eyelid to prevent round eyes or accentuate a "fox eye" effect, the injection of your own fat or lipofilling to restore facial volume on the cheekbones. , outlines the nasolabial fold or the temples, performing a skin resurfacing laser to reduce wrinkles around the eyes.

How to get rid of wrinkles around the eyes

There are several types of wrinkles. Dynamic expression lines and static lines.

Dynamic wrinkles are linked to the fact that the skin of the face is stuck to the so-called "skin" muscles. These skin muscles are responsible for the expression of the face and will contract each time we speak, eat, smile, for example. With each contraction, the skin strongly attached to these muscles wrinkles and causes a break in the skin. Over time, this break is accentuated and will form an expression line. Around the eye there are crow's feet wrinkles, lion's wrinkles, forehead wrinkles.

These dynamic wrinkles are therefore treated by reducing the muscular contraction of the skin muscles by injecting botulinum toxin or Botox into the muscular body.

Static wrinkles are linked to overall slackening of the skin. Indeed with age the skin loses collagen and hyaluronic acid which makes it less elastic and more dehydrated. These phenomena are even earlier around the eyes where the skin is thinner and more naturally dehydrated.

These static wrinkles are therefore treated by improving the quality and thickness of the skin through mesotherapy, skin boosters, regenerative medicine such as PRP or nanofat. These wrinkles are also treated by performing a skin lift with resurfacing lasers, radiofrequency and sometimes cosmetic eyelid surgery is essential.

What treatment for wrinkles under the eyes

Under the eyes, wrinkles form on the lower eyelids. These wrinkles are both dynamic expression lines and static sagging wrinkles. We will therefore use combined treatments associating a moisturizing and restructuring complex of the skin: PRP, mesotherapy or nanofat. We can also make micro doses of botulinum toxin: "mesobotox" or "babybotox" which will release the contraction of the muscle of the eyelid and relax the skin. Finally we will complete in winter with a laser treatment of medical blepharoplasty on the lower eyelids.

All these techniques must be associated with a healthy lifestyle: a balanced diet, quality sleep, smoking cessation, SPF50 sun protection and a special moisturizing cream for the eye area.

Your look will regain its radiance and youthfulness.

How to straighten a droopy eyelid

The upper eyelids relax over time and this excess skin weighs down your eyes. When the skin begins to relax, we can offer medical blepharoplasty techniques such as the CO2 laser called "skin resurfacing". When the skin becomes too heavy, you will be offered upper blepharoplasty surgery. This procedure aims to remove excess skin from the upper eyelids. The incision is made in the natural fold of your eyelid and the precise drawing of the surgery will be carried out before the surgery in the operating room for a natural and symmetrical result. The procedure is performed under anesthesia for painless surgery. Then the surgeon doctor sutures the skin of the upper eyelid. The result is immediate with an eyelid lift and a lighter, brighter look. The postoperative treatment is simple and consists of the application of healing ointments and antibiotics on the scar. Bruising and edema are systematic. No pain is felt postoperatively. It will take between 7 to 10 days of social eviction. The scar hides in the natural fold of the eyelid and becomes invisible after 1 to 3 months.

How much does it cost to lift the eyelids

As you will have understood, to lift the upper eyelids you must perform cosmetic blepharoplasty surgery. The price of an operation to lift the eyelid depends on your needs.

Dr. Bela collaborates with the best clinics in Geneva for your outpatient or private stay surgeries. The prices for eyelid surgery vary depending on the duration of the procedure and the type of anesthesia. The quote includes surgery, anesthesia, the entire stay and post-operative checks. Each quote is made individually and discussed in consultation according to your needs. Cosmetic eyelid surgery starts at 3500 CHF.

In some cases, the upper eyelids are so heavy that they cut off part of the visual field. In this case, a request for reimbursement by health insurance may be considered.

What causes droopy eyelids

With age the look becomes heavy and sad. For what ? There are 5 anatomical levels in the face: bone, deep fat, muscle, superficial fat and skin. Around the eye, the bone called the orbit widens, the fat atrophies and the muscles freeze. Thus the eyebrow lacks support and descends gradually. The eyebrow that becomes heavier will exert additional weight on the eyelids. These also show slackening of the skin and its elasticity, which will gradually lead to visible excess skin. Finally, the levator muscle of the upper eyelid is sometimes deficient with age or linked to a disease. This is called ptosis. This leads to an eye opening that is too small with an eyelid that appears too low and an eye that is too closed. Cosmetic eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty therefore consists of lifting the eyebrow and the eyelids to restore radiance to the eyes. If necessary, an associated gesture on the levator muscle of the upper eyelid is performed to allow sufficient and natural opening of the eye and restore symmetry to your gaze.
